What the assessment measures

Work–Life Balance Test: the dimensions behind your result

The free result keeps interpretation concise. These sections explain what each domain is intended to capture before you decide whether a deeper report is useful.

Boundaries

Clear start, stop and availability boundaries can reduce the sense that work is always present.

Recovery

Regular psychological and physical recovery helps prevent demands from accumulating without relief.

Control

Some degree of influence over schedule, priorities or response can support a more workable balance.

Role strain

When work repeatedly crowds out sleep, relationships or basic needs, balance becomes harder to sustain.

Personal nourishment

Time for relationships, movement, interests and quiet is part of functioning, not merely a reward after productivity.

Scoring and method

How the free result is calculated

Each response contributes to one domain. Reverse-keyed items are scored in the opposite direction where appropriate. Each domain is displayed as a 0–100 position within this questionnaire’s possible score range.

That 0–100 number is not automatically a population percentile. Population comparisons are used only when an approved instrument, appropriate norms and a documented scoring procedure support them.

Limitations

Balance is partly personal, and partly structural

Work-life balance depends on job demands, caregiving, finances, schedule control and organizational culture as well as personal habits. The result should not shift responsibility for harmful working conditions onto the individual.

Frequently asked questions

Questions people ask about this work–life balance test

Does work-life balance mean splitting time equally?

No. Balance is not a 50/50 formula. It is more useful to ask whether your current demands leave enough room for recovery, important relationships, responsibilities, and things that matter outside work.

Can good balance look different during a busy season?

Yes. Balance can shift during deadlines, exams, caregiving periods, launches, or other temporary demands. The key question is whether the pattern is sustainable and whether recovery returns afterward.

Does caregiving count as part of this assessment?

Yes. The page is designed to include work, study, and caregiving demands because all three can compete with recovery and personal time.

Is poor work-life balance the same as burnout?

No. Poor balance can contribute to strain and burnout risk, but burnout is a broader pattern involving exhaustion and other work-related changes. This check does not diagnose burnout.

What should I change first?

Start with the domain that creates the clearest cost and is actually within your control, such as boundaries, recovery time, workload expectations, or how often work spills into protected time.
